Freedom Cups
From Nigeria to Nepal, Freedom Cups and their buy-one-give-one model has travelled far since the Singaporean social enterprise was formed in 2015. Unlike single-use sanitary napkins and tampons, each cup lasts up to 15 years. This helps ease a financial burden for women from underprivileged communities, whom they give the cups to.
Picha Project
Social enterprise Picha Project has empowered 11 refugee families in Malaysia to date through its food and cultural exchange model. Its open house and catering services have served some 70,000 meals so far - all prepared by its refugee partners, who receive 50 per cent of the sales.
Sangeeta Darvekar Charitable Trust
Founded in 2003 to promote oral cancer awareness, Sangeeta Darvekar Charitable Trust turned its attention to education for tribal kids with Cycle for Change: donate bicycles so that children can continue to attend school. It has distributed 356 bicycles in India to date.
New Life Stories
New Life Stories is a non-profit in Singapore set up in 2014 to help incarcerated mothers and their children. It strengthens their bonds through storytelling and support programmes for both mother and child. Its first cohort had 15 mothers; it increased that to 30 in 2018.
